BANNERTAILED or GIANT KANGAROO RAT (Dipodomys ingens)
NOTE: I didn’t know these cute little guys were endangered, we have a thriving population of them living in our canyon.

The giant kangaroo rat is one of the cutest, sweetest, and most precious creatures of Central California. This small fluffy rodent has small front paws and large back legs that enable it to hop over 2 meters. This comes in handy when it is escaping from dangerous predators. The Giant Kangaroo rat has sandy color fur, a white stripe across its rump, only four toes, a black tail with white stripes, and a white belly. It has small rounded ears and big black eyes. Adult giant kangaroo rats range from 4.6 to 6.4 ounces in weight and 12.2 to 13.7 inches.
