Small orange star with prominent cream or yellow plates. The plates are larger along the external margins, small and flattened on the upper surface. Orange central disc and tip of the arms, the central disc have large pores. 10 cm diameter.
Encountered in lagoon, back reef and reef front. Different Fromia species are identified by the plates on the dirsal side.Fromia monilis has larger tubercles at the margins, smaller in the center of the arms; Fromia nodosa is similar but with a central row of large tubercles on each arm; Fromia indica has plates covering all the surface, Fromia milleporella has no plates.
