Location: Endemic to the Mountainous regions of Taiwan
Status: Near Threatened
Facts:
Yushan (Mt. Jade) Main Peak and Mikado Pheasant were both elected as the symbols shown on the NT$1000 notes, regarding their precious and lofty status (from click through site)
The pheasants will often walk and forage for food (a diet of various fruit, leaves, vegetation, seeds and invertebrates) at the same time, in a manner similar to chickens, on the forest floor and mountain trails, especially on rainy and foggy days
The long and stiff shiny tail feather of the bird were used by the Taiwanese aborigines as a head-dress decoration.
